the snow and my dear sophie.

for some of you this might not be a welcomed post and in away i felt like that about the snow too. it came to early, twice within days. we are home and finally we are breathing, a few nights ago i was hoping i would stop, that i would not take another breath. My dear sophie (my big white dog) got instantly ill and i had to rush her to er were she had to have life or death surgery. i  cried so many tears my eyes ran dry, my head pretty near exploding. i was not going to loose one more anything, i am not good at these things, i am not made of the materials needed to cope.  yet i know now i know my animals and the most subtle change in behaviour a motherly instinct kicks in. sophie is on the mend, and home, the road ahead not easy, yet already better. i think the snow came to calm us down, even in away a vital component to saving sophies life.  I will like to thank my neighbour debbie for being there to drive sophie and i to ny, staying with me till wee hours of the morning, k for coming as soon as he possibly could, the vets all of them for saving her.

it is a beautiful sunny sunday, white snow everywhere. standing outside under the warm sun feels like a friend's arm around my shoulder. the house feels so different in the snow, a warm bright light comes in and lifts all our spirits.

I am so sorry your dog was so ill. And happy that she is on the mend. I know what you mean about crying till you can;t anymore over an animal.

Love your photography...love to see the world through your photographic eye.

the photos are absolutely beautiful.. I'm glad that Sophie is better, I went through the exact same thing a couple months ago, my dear sam got bit by a rattle snake and we almost lost her, I never thought I could cry so much. She pulled through.. hope all continues to go well!

Yes, dear Nadia, the snow seems out of place, unwelcome, even though it is lovely. Here it is sunny and warmish and the leaves are a brilliant fiery backdrop. I am so relieved to read she will recover. Thankful you were there to act on your instinct. I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you and the most beautiful Miss Sophie.

It’s a bit eerie for me to realize it will be seven years this January, in the midst of the worst snowstorm here in decades, that I returned from out of town to find my beloved Pyr, Sugar, missing. I searched and searched the farm and forests for hours through two feet of snow until I found her. She was a week to ten days in the vet clinic for salmon poisoning and I nearly lost her. Sugar will be eleven this January. May Sophie recover fully and know such a long life blessed by your devotion. Hugs and Blessings.

I'm so glad tht Sophie is getting better, it must have been a terrible scare. I know what it's like to cry so many tears over a pet, a member of the family.

Sophie is better soon. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The beautiful photos. The first snow - I've read in the newspaper that it has snowed a lot with you.

I am the same, not someone to cope easy with such things. it is tough and I am so glad to read she is getting better. I do believe though, beauty (like the snow) comes in these moments, to calm us and remind us of even that. lots of love from berlin.

glad to hear that your sophie is back at home, i've always enjoyed the photos of her. i too get anxious about snow coming and then when it does, i wonder why i was fretting over it. we did not get it here on cape cod, only rain. but it will come to us eventually. hope your day is starting off sunny and relaxing...

Dear Sophie Sweet Face, healing wishes are on the way, for you too. Our pet/fur person, our babies, we love them one and all.

Nadia, I am somewhat new to your blog and am moved each time I visit. I share your passion for dogs, horses, nature, farms, Vermont... the list goes on. I don't know what happened to Sophie, but I am relieved that she is recovering well. The Great Pyrenees is truly grand and noble. There is one for adoption, Anabelle, that I wish so much I could rescue or at least foster. My husband and I have two dogs and another one that is convinced she belongs to us on weekends in the country. We used to have a rescue, Luna, (still shed tears each time I think of her) who, I would bet my bottom dollar, was at least half Pyrenees. Her expression was so kind and so vivid in my memory. My in-laws in Chile have one -- not even a year old -- that does double duty as a guard for their flock of sheep and family dog. I have to wonder how well he does as a guard with my in-laws and their goldens in the mix.

Speedy recovery wishes to Sophie. She's beautiful. And so are your words, views and blog.
