the country drive

the hill has taken on new sounds, one of children's laughter. i have many things to write about and many stories that have begun to take shape in my mind.

these photographs were taken on a country drive with my mother on her last visit, i was having some camera trouble, mostly me not understand the settings)  over exposing when shooting, but i do not think there as  bad as i thought, well...

last  night as we all went up to bed and the golden full moon entered the room the kids and i started chatting, we laughed so hard as we shared stories, tried to make sophie our big white dog talk. the room was filled with the kind of laughter that made our eyes water. such happy sounds from upstairs. this is what summer on the hill has been so far. i look forward to sharing more with you soon.

i am going to be talking about this post, real soon so please visit it and i am going to add to the plot. because of this family my life has changed, i am able to capture moments and speak and share with so many. so have a look and  like i said i will be posting about it soon, with the help of my niece elle.

melodies

the wind howls outside my window. just this morning as i was doing my chores i could not help but feel my soul smile. i am made for crisp sun filled mornings much in the same way i am for the rain and fog in the afternoon.  i have spent much time getting the hill ready for winter and even garden prepping for spring. the hay has been stacked as has the wood.  lately there is a happy whisper almost like a hum that fills my soul, perhaps it is my time to grow, now that everything is beginning to slow down.

i type this as the fire warms my chaise, a simple meal of brussel sprouts and asparagus is in the oven and tea is already on the table. i am grateful for  many things.  when i wake up as of late, the things i am thankful for escape my lips as i look through the window staring out and the vast landscape that is now my home. sometimes i am frightened to think or write about happiness as if something might come and take it away , that is why i keep insisting on being in the moment and when i am things are both fragile and heavy, lovely and sad but mostly lovely. like the orchard above yellow and red apples hang like jewels in a golden sky, i stop and take the photographs knowing how lovely it is standing in between the rows but there is sadness there too for every tree in that orchard is covered with fruit yet not one has been picked. a no trespassing sign from a rich owner who would rather see the fruit wither and die than it be picked and eaten. then further down the road i stop to take pictures of beautiful wooden structures that to, long time ago have been let go to ruin.  so you see in moments of  loveliness there is both happy and sad melodies.

the melody of spring

We are expecting a snow storm, somehow mother nature wants to show puxsutawney phil whos the boss:)
I am looking forward to the spring very much, crocuses are blooming and daffodils are on there way.
I have to tell you that today, i went for a drive, finally got the courage to go beyond a very large  private sign on someone driveway to snap a few pictures of the mill- it is red and i have been eyeing it since my move last year, unfortunately my camera battery was drained but i got a few. then with that courage i went to another private driveway and snapped a few of the white cows i have wanted to get close to.

dear friends today i felt as if there was music to accompany my  thoughts, positive thoughts. there is changes on there way and i would love to tell you about them but i would rather show you as they happen.

hope you are well, how are you feeling?

* please do not mind header it needs work!

twelfth night

yesterday morning i woke up to snow and it was lovely. mid afternoon a conversation that made my heart hurt took place. then the horses got there hooves trimmed by the happy farrier. A friend asked me if i would like to go to a play with her, perfect timing i say. We arrived at the theatre an old gorgeous church, in the car i had asked what would the play be about she said well i am not sure of the name, there is fire, singing and dancing. arriving at the large church doors i was so happy to find out it was twelfth night, i instantly became young again, giddy and excited. it was beautiful done and the costumes were the loveliest, the church was packed and the spirit was great. there were nuns in the audience an they laughed so loudly , it made me happy to hear. then friends of a friend invited us to their home for "hors d'hoevres" but what we found instead was full blown esquisite traditional holiday dinner, the kids table was so beautiful, it made you want to be a kid again until you saw the the grown up table decorated with twelfth night, holiday Crackers(poppers) and so on. It was so lovely there, as the fire roared and snow fell outside. each of us assigned a night, i the third night "three french hens" we sang all around the table adults and children a like. the best of times i had and too think it was all last minute. what a great way to end the holiday season( little christmas) and begin the quiet winter months.

pictures from my day yesterday, unfortunately i did not have my camera last night.
