have you ever driven by an abandoned home over and over curious about it. well i have and too many times i do not stop. yesterday k. and i decided to grab my camera and go. when i see an abandoned home or cabin i can not help to think what happened here? that this house stopped being cared for. this one in particular was so well built, i just do not understand the space in time were people are having dinner within it's walls, sitting by the fire -too racoons and squirrels finding shelter in it. i have been in love with chipped paint forever now,  for i find it tells such stories, windows have stories too, i love looking out from them to see what the people who lived here must have seen.  K. and i often day dream of one day fixing one up (okay i daydream), one that has completely been abandoned, one that most people would demolish in a heart beat. i think how great it would be to know you had a lifetime to  bring a place back to life.

* i included a picture of buddy in the soft snow yesterday morning

If you ever get around to it, I'll gladly come chip in!

The fire place looks like it could be beautiful all fixed up, for sure.

what a beautiful, old place! i often find myself wishing to explore - go into the old, abandoned homes and factories around here and just take pictures.. feel the walls... hear the sounds. it's so interesting!

there's actually a house in downtown port washington (a community that's right on lake michigan about 10 minutes from where i live) that is being renovated. the house sat there, lonely for years. every time i drove by, i'd look in the backyard and see a little creek, surrounded by big, leafy trees. the man who bought it for about $40,000 is renovating it. when he first went inside, he found newspapers from the 1910s! can you imagine!

i want that house so bad..

This is magical! I have similar fantasies about renovating a forgotten place.

oh how wonderful it would be found home and renovated as bloggers retreat!

oh cassandra, that sounds incredible- i am glad to know that someone has fallen in love with it to restore it!

An abandoned house is like an invitation to a mystery for me...I have traipsed through many of these thresh holds and wondered the very same thing...

Yes. I have often tried to deconstruct my desire for the forlorn. Maybe it's a desire to nurture or is it just the love of authentic aged objects.

I'm not sure but I am not alone it's a common yearning...

Love the turqoize painting.

i love old, dilapidated houses. I love seeing what was left behind and I wonder too when it went from being lived in to abandoned.
