things
things
What happened is, we grew lonely
living among the things,
so we gave the clock a face,
the chair a back,
the table four stout legs
which will never suffer fatigue.
We fitted our shoes with tongues
as smooth as our own
and hung tongues inside bells
so we could listen
to their emotional language,
and because we loved graceful profiles
the pitcher received a lip,
the bottle a long, slender neck.
Even what was beyond us
was recast in our image;
we gave the country a heart,
the storm an eye,
the cave a mouth
so we could pass into safety.

Oh, I love that poem! So true!! And I love how you capture the light in your pics. The contrast between dark and light is truly awesome. Like your cupboard too! Especially that little pitcher on top.
The words and the pictures. Both very beautiful!
there is light, love and longing here...
if that is the inside of your new home, it's dreamy, positively dreamy! beautiful words perfectly accompany the spaces. love :)
I was overwhelmed by your kind note of congratulations, thank you so much!!
i want to wake up in that bed, with that view... and that light...
An amazing poem. Love her work, and your photographs play off of the poem so beautifully. I am coveting the ironstone picture. I collect ironstone and maybe love it a wee bit too much for my own good! Thanks. I always love coming here.
Oh, the photo of the shelves with all of your pretty cream dishes stacked high made me stop and just look for a moment. So lovely.
Just absolutely lovely!
