when i asked the fog to come…...

Dear friends,

Are you warm, have you made time for yourself. Soon  things will get busy, i do not have tv but i hear how things are being rushed, christmas before halloween- thanksgiving spent at a mall- I have always felt like big corporations hardly care about their customers but now to steal those holidays from underneath you in the name of the very holiday they are trying to get you to buy for is such an ugly thing happening here in North America.

The cost of such will be felt for generations, when traditions go from sitting at the thanksgiving table to waiting in line in front of some big department stores. There is also the fact that the small independent shop that you find so special, can not compete of course but now just like the larger commercial ones will  have to choose what employee will forgo dinner or brunch with family or friends for a  fear of loosing their jobs. I am truly sad about this all.

Gosh when i sat at my computer i had not intended to write the above at all, i apologize.

I have a confession about Autumn, although i love the the bright reds and yellows from the earlier Fall months it is the colors of late fall early winter that i swoon for. The browns, greys, rust, the fallen leaves and bare branches and the birds that stick around. As you know the fog is a friend to me but it had been gone for far too long, when i started hoping it would make it's return intact i even said out loud " can you please come, i need you" and the very next morning it was here. I bundled up Poet an made my way down dirt roads and felt renewed every time i capture it with my phone. We all have something that gets us back on track for me it is the fog, what about you?

Oh Nadia, how I agree with you. I use to make presents I offer for Christmas. I enjoyed it so much and I hope people I offer it feel love in it. I don't have TV also, but I see shopping centers full of people...
Is it lack of time? Is it a busy life we are living? May be all and more of it but it feels wrong!!
Love photos!!!

For me it is the woods. Yesterday, I stood amongst the branches enchanted by a flock of tiny birds flitting around me like jewels. This, and a post, a word, a picture from you :)

Beautiful, and yes I feel the same way. I do have and enjoy TV, but I almost never watch commercials anymore, and I avoid malls like the plague. Thank goodness for online shopping when buying things is necessary. I'm thankful my family has always tried to keep things simple, so the excess of the season has not invaded our life. When I think of holidays, I think of food and drink and family and games and traditions. As it should be.

The fog crept in on little cat...and so on. If I could figure out how to work this photo app, I would send you some cool fog photos I took while in VT this past August. As far as 'tis the season' to ignore the injustice going on in the rest of the world and just over indulge here at home, I gave it up 26 years ago, don't miss it at all...Peace to you and Poet.

All the commercialism around the holidays makes me so sad...it disgusts me really. I'm so afraid that people will forget what the holidays are really all about...I cringe to think what this time of year will be like in generations to come. I try my hardest to concentrate on the beauty of the season, family, friends and quiet reflection.

I'm so glad the fog came for you. For me, it's the warmth of the sun. My spirits lift sky high when the sun is bright and warm. I know you love winter, but I struggle when the skies are dark and gray and the air is damp and chilly. But I know there must be dark days for me to appreciate the bright ones . . .

I hope your holidays are beautiful. xo

I'm saddened by how commercialized the holidays have become. I'm not a big shopper and haven't been inside of a mall in at least four years. I worry about the current and future generation of youngsters ... so much vying for their attention. Where will it all end?

To answer your question, what does it take to get me back on track, there are several things that will do it for me. One is a trip to the seashore, which happens to be not so very far from my front door. Another is a star-studded sky, and particularly being able to see the planet Venus, which is quite a beauty this time of year. And there's nothing like an occasional rainy day to set me right.

Blessings to you and Poet.

My mum gave up the television when I was in the 5th grade... because of her desire to live compassionately and creatively I have never missed it. The same goes with the holidays, they are safe because of ladies (and gents0 like you and my mum.

Have the happiest of Thanksgivings with your dear family.

I do agree with you about the loss of tradition. we do not have Black Friday in France but some people would like to have all shops, especially open on Sundays...It's for me not a sign of improvement but the opposite...Like you I like the silence of Sundays, the non-commercial activity of that day...But it will be perhaps only a memory for the enxt generation...So sad...

I so dislike the consumption part of Christmas, I can hardly raise my head right now. I dread this time of year, every year, because it is a time of expectation of grand things I do not care about at all. Tell me... how can I make Christmas special to those who expect/want more than I do? I hate to disappoint but what can I do?

Black Friday is truly black in its nature.
For me on the west coast it is the rainy days in my studio with the fire on and tea in hand. This is what keeps me stable.
Hope you are well with Poet and the approaching winter white.
