a hike and gun shots (a rant)

this weekend we did a small hike in arcadia state park, it was lovely but i could not help be distracted by shots, yes gun shots from a firing range somewhere nearby. it made me dive deep into thought, i started to think about off shore driling, removing wolves form endangered species list, whaling( hunting of whales) allowing guns in national parks and not to mention many more. i feel somewhat confused and disappointed in this list, you see k and i feel misled. i believed that the things in this list would be protected by this administration, i believed that those things, the environment, animal welfare and so on was fundamentally democratic? did we not ask where he stood on these issues. please do not get me wrong there is so much i do agree with and understand that perhaps he( obama) must pick his battles but this list is sounding much more like it belongs to the tea party! and those are mean *@%&*^*!( oh man, i know but i just had too)

i hear what you are saying. you know, i think obama has entered into office with more going on, more to clean up and may not know which battle to lead first. i agree about everything you listed and i too am confused. i still hold out hope :)

I completely empathize with you. I cried twice this weekend over the same issues.
Avante garde has a good point. I remember when I was in college many, many moons ago, Dr. Helen Caldecott came to speak. One of her points was that the way our system is set up, no matter how good the intentions of the person may have been, by the time they actually get into office their ideals have been "corrupted". I'm hoping that Obama's have not actually been so, but that he is just truly overwhelmed by the complete mess he was left with when he entered office. I have to have faith that once he is able to address some of these points, he will begin to work on the issues that are so vital to our earth and the beloved creatures that share it with us.
Sorry for being long winded, but your post touched my heart...

I am holding out hope that he will move some of these items up his list of priorities. In the meantime, be careful because I think hunters DO go there!

The picture of that leaf is completely unique, I love it.

Oh dear. I, as a 50-year staunch Democra,t left my party in 2008 because of the way the primary was conducted. Hillary got way more votes than That One and the way he secured the nomination was to bus in loads of out-of-staters to intimidate caucus-voters. If you carefully do your research you will learn that he lost all major states in the primary and won caucus states. That is why Hillary was pressured to get out of the race months before she did. 18 million of us were not wrong. Most Democrats would rather keep their blinders on, but I learned a crucial lesson in 2008 ~ it matters not what letter is behind your name on the ballot, both parties are corrupt as hell, and if you are waiting for Obama to turn things around I hope you have oodles and oodles of patience. British Petroleum gave millions of dollars to his campaign and they didn't do that for no reason.
The whole thing makes me sick, but I'm a fool no longer. Hope when it comes to Obama? Ha! Just words.
Now that my rant is over, once again you have put a smile on my face with your lovely photos Nadia!

thanks for this post, nadia! i had a feeling this is what would happen with obama (yes, i admit it, i voted for nader...proudly). i'm a cynic when it comes to politicians...i don't trust most of them, and i admit i never trusted obama. our system is certainly broken. we need something/someone truly progressive. my humble opinion. thanks for the rant!!!!

nadia,
i've had similar thoughts too...
this disaster in the gulf is epic and tragic...there seems to be a lack of urgency that i can't understand.

nadia, i know all these things seem overwhelming...washington is a hard place to make change...but i can't help respond to becky's comment:
there are many places to read your news but i suggest looking for hard facts rather than conservative spin. Try this: http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2010/05/05/bp-and-obama-playing-internet-gotcha-with-campaign-finance-numbers/

But as far as the disaster in our gulf region, the deregulation of the oil & energy industries was signed behind closed doors in dick cheney's office as close to the start of that admin as he could get. this is an interesting article about shortcuts bp took and because they were self-"regulated" we now have an epic disaster on our hands. A corporation taking short-cuts to cut costs and a U.S. agency on the take (the interior's Mineral Managment Service) are also responsible: http://www.ufppc.org/us-a-world-news-mainmenu-35/9569-news-deregulation-a-cost-cutting-may-have-led-bp-to-omit-costly-standard-safety-item.html

I think the problem here isn't how obama won his election- trust that hillary's people and background was far stronger than obama's during the presidential elections, but how there there was no safety contingency plans for something this big.
many people are saying, "if it's too big to fail (financial institutions/an enormous off-shore oil rig), then it's too big to exist. j'agree.

i'm angry too nadia.

I was going to subscribe to your blog because the photos are so lovely, then I scrolled down to this posting.

You obviously have a very nice life. What are you complaining about? No president is a miracle worker. There are many of us who are concerned about the same things you are. I too walked in the woods in Massachusetts and heard gunshots. I don't like these things either. However I also know people who have not been able to find a job in two years--people who used to earn six figures! I know people with chronic health problems who don't have health insurance. I know people who cannot pay their mortgages and are worried with a capital W about losing everything. And yes, we still have young men & women being blown to bits in two countries, children being shot in the streets, women making less than men, poor people that live in horrible areas with no resources, in short every problem of mankind is still going on and on and on. People of goodwill do what they can where they can. Some wonderful things are being done.

You heard some shots in the forest where you were hiking and your world fell apart because not everything is not PERFECT.

And reading that made me sick. A person with an apparently very prosperous and lovely life feeling sorry for themselves. It is so ungrateful. You should be ashamed for even posting this. Really.

i appreciate your comment.

this post was not about how i felt sorry for myself because i heard gun shots but in fact the very list you mentioned in your comment. that guns existed and that not all guns( if any did good) and that people where dying all over the world, war related or crime or for fun or by accident. that greed in oil and money has made it that people have lost their six figure salaries, houses, health insurance. i am aware of the good that people are doing and absolutely includes our president -so aware of it yet i still felt to need to put my thoughts even if they are somewhat naive on my blog!

but truth be-told, I was thinking about the animals when i wrote this post YUP that is right animals. at the moment I heard gun shots i became preoccupied with wanting to save them.

You do not know me, you judge me based on my blog and pretty pictures, you do not know if any of the things you listed apply to my life. you also seem to be under the assumption that i cannot have a moment( a rant as i stated in the title of this very post) about one thing that makes me sad.

i think you judge people, well you judged me based on a post i wrote about a feeling i had on a walk and things i had been thinking and then you hide behind "anonymous" when you could have been open about who you are instead of shouting at the top of your lungs pointing your finger at a cover of a book( because that is what a blog is really just the cover of ones life)

but do believe me when i say appreciated your comment, i took time to examine and learn form it.
