passing the time with the past...
i went for a drive with my mum, we visited many vintage and antique shops.. my mum bought a pink lined baby blue sateen house coat that reminded her of her past. There was many things that peeked my interest, i even picked a few up but then-quickly put them back down again. I thought that maybe taking photographs had replaced the want to buy things. Then i started to think about blogging and if you had noticed your shopping habits change. does blogging make you shop less? does visiting blogs replace shopping..?

it does! it is so much more satisfying.
Absolutely. Between blogging and photography, I see more and want less.
Gorgeous photos, as always.
visiting blogs definitely replaces my shopping. i mean, theres so much goodness out there i think if i actually bought everything i adoreed, nothing would be special. thanks taking us on your trip:)
visiting blogs is a lot like window shopping without the pressure of a price tag. i never tire of the pretty little things and quiet details i find here.
All I know is that, I find myself wanting those silver shoes really badly! haha
*I'm such a cheapo, I like to save money, as opposed to spending it.
I'm glad you are raising this question. The response for me is a resounding YES. It fills my need to gather and amass pretty things. It's like a Christmas wish list of my childhood, all those wants. But joy is more in the wanting than in the accumulation.
i agree with cindy about the window-shopping comparison. i find i am buying less stuff but am still connected to and aware of all the beautiful stuff out there. it's a great place to be in - to appreciate things, but not be such a rabid consumer.
Good question!!
I don´t know yet, this blog world is still so new to me. In a way I think its like window shopping. But I also see lovely things that I didnt know exist before, that I really want to shop. And sometimes I do so, I shop something I found trou a blog. Most shopping I have done because of the "blog world" have been from independent artists and crafters.I like to suport independent design, so its ok I think :)
I love going to antique stores and just look and imagine stories behind the objects. Blogging has made me look for local and independent artists more than before. So many talented people in this world :)
what can I say, I LOVE it!!
absolutely!
I don't know. It gives me great links and tips about what's out there to purchase, but I really haven't bought anything because of blogging. But I do find things I never would have stumbled upon on my own!
I haven't shopped as much since I began blogging, but I think that's more based on financial set backs than having an overload of desirable things... though I do notice when there are too many choices, I tend to choose nothing.
These pictures are beautiful!
I think, yes, blogging has made me shop less because I am a big online shopper...and now most of my online time is spent blogging and reading blogs.
you always take beautiful photographs! takes my breath away every time without fail :)
absolutely!
i wish i could hev been there... what a treasure chest! i love anything with texture and those linens... oh my...
Yes, totally.
My mother in law is a compulsive buyer, we travel to New York together, she has never been in a museum, she asked me how much one of those things could cost, when I told her, she almost started to cry, she realized the never would be the owner of a Picasso.
I find pleasure looking at beautiful things not need to have everything I spot.
My parents were a bit crazy but had an excellent relationship with money, I learnt a lot from them.
I love this set of pictures - SO pretty!
I think there are definitely some things that I buy fewer of because I can satisfy the urge by "window shopping" online and not give in to the impulse to buy. But then there's internet shopping... I find it amazingly easy to click the 'add to basket' and then 'checkout' options on some sites - like amazon and etsy... And I still buy books and handcrafted goodies when I'm out too. So probably buying slightly more of some things. So it balances out? Yes, I'll go with that - balance!
my petit point hanky collection is calling out to those in your wonderful photos. i could move in to those shops.
i think the photography associated with blogging has affected my shopping. sometimes, i'll purchase an item because i think it would make a great prop. i probably purchase more handmade through etsy vs. general shopping, which is a good thing.
hmmm i don;t know about that--it seems to have replaced exercise for me which is NOT GOOD! but serioulsy, can i come to providence and steal you away for a day and we can shop and look around for a day?
This is a very interesting question...yes, I do believe that photography, blogging, and reading blogs does make me shop less. And, makes me pause before I buy something.
You'd think that looking at all sorts of pretty things would put me in shopping overdrive; but I think that taking and admiring photographs has really changed how I view my space. I'm more conscious about details and proportion and quality and color. And less focused on just having "things" for the sake of having them.
Thanks for getting me to ponder this!
