capturing the light
sometimes i am minding my own business and boom the light hits something in the kitchen. within seconds my hand is trying to locate my camera..then i am instantly snapping away, while my mind starts racing. I grab what ever i can around me and put it into the light, click, click, click..not good enough so i grab other objects while saying to myself hurry make it happen..then my heart starts to beat faster to the point were it is uncomfortable and i am saying to myself now i better have gotten it...and i wish people could see it..the light that is....so panic begins to kick in...and i start moving all the dials on my camera trying this and that. now i have become irrational and my brain hurts that i actually think i could smell it burning(which happens often- i know odd)..anyways as if being shocked i let go.. i must stop or I will be found on the floor with my camera in my hand and dog slobber..and when they look at the pictures that i just took..someone will utter oh an onion or a white pitcher and they will miss it all together...
*the top two photos happened within seconds of the rest, while chasing the light and playing with my camera the light disappears all together...(i think they look like paintings)

The photographer's curse. When something catches your eye you must drop everything and get out the camera. But in this case, with beautiful results!
oh, yes, the second one from the top especially looks like a still life painting. i love still life paintings. i love the top one of the light on the onion--the gnarly roots and the purply-red skin...
i love this post about your process and the light. your photos are beautiful. if i knew what to change the dials to, i'm sure i'd also be lying on the floor hyperventilating.
nadia the more i see your work, the more i wish i could just sit silently in your kitchen and watch you go about everything that you do.
yes, they DO look like paintings!! Beautiful. You should output on canvas,
light is fickle, but you capture it perfectly!
I agree, I really think the second photo looks like a painting. The light is just beautiful. I love those times of the day when it pours into the house just so.
btw, your post made me chuckle...i can totally relate!
The next person who says this is just an onion i will challenge to a duel!
playing with light, great fun!!!and the result is joli comme tout!
I know exactly what you're talking about. You're just looking around and suddenly BOOM! A perfect shot! Where's the camera?! Quick! And off you go shooting like a crazy person until you satisfy that inner itch.
Great catches!
oozing with beauty...
well, that's you, chasing the light in your kitchen... that's what makes the difference... your passion, your irrational passion... that's why I like your pictures so much. As they seem calm, collected... they have a beating heart underneath and I sense that. (And I mean it)
:)
Oh, light! Such a blessing and so elusive for the photographer.
they do look like paintings, the top two, and as far as the others go, they are still photos for a future painting...again, moving and gorgeous, who knew an onion could move someone. oh, and i tagged you, read the details on my blog and see if you want to participate in the fun, perhaps you could just describe yourself through photos?
There are good photos and there are good photos that touch me, the light in these photos touched my eyes and my heart
I love when the light comes in at just the right moment - looks like you captured it quite well!
Definitely like paintings, those top two. To me they have something of the wonderful light quality that the 16th and 17th century Dutch masters captured in their depictions of domestic life.
They are all gorgeous!
oh i know exactly what you mean! so funny. i love these shots nadia, but i must say, those first two are incredible - just like an old dutch painting. well done with capturing the light! looks like you had heaps of fun. px
ps: this post inspired me :)

thank you.
Frantic, internal havoc for you, but very calming and soothing for me to see... I have just discovered your blog and simply looking at your photos is like lifting a weight off my shoulders.. how lovely... Ali :)
It's never just an onion..or a pitcher..or whatever...because it's always about the light, and we can see that.
Beautiful still life's.
