This post was supposed to be about a
shop i sumbled upon, full of gorgeous
things, from furniture, to pillows, chandeliers
and beautfiful things from the ocean, in fact
the shop was in a New England Coast. As i began
to put the photographs together, i was overwhelmed
with questions about things from the sea, one of the questions
was, will we take too much?.......

Beautiful pictures, but still I had the same thought: is this a treasure or a sad reminder of what we are doing?
I'm curious, what store is this? this looks like one I've been to in Maine?
I accidently watched a few minutes of "Deadliest Catch" on TV once. It was appauling to see how many thousands of pounds of snow crabs were hauled out of the ocean every day. People won't learn until there's nothing left... It made my heart hurt.
On a happier note, I stumbled upon your journal a few weeks ago, and it's lovely!

I think it's important to be wise. . . but i had something happen today that made me think: i took my children up a beautiful canyon close to our home. As we passed through the check gate the woman working there said "and don't pick any wild flowers." I remember going for walks in the mountains as a girl with my grandmother, picking wildflowers, she telling me the names of all of them, pressing them in a big book when we got home and then putting them in a picture frame, reminding me of those happy times. I'm glad we picked the wildflowers. Will we take too much or will we not enjoy the things the earth offers to us? I'm not sure, but thanks for asking a thought provoking question.
That is the question of our lives. We rent this place we call earth and I think everyone forgot that.
yes i love ocean inspiration within the home too but i don't condone pillaging the ocean floor for decor.
When I had my homeware store, I remember the first trade fair I went to, ready to stock up my shop with all the things I loved, and one item I thought I would buy were shells...until I saw the stalls that sold them - massive tables piled with starfish,coral and shells, it made me physically sick. My boyfriend and i then realised how wrong it was to sell these items for decor purposes, and we refused to stock it in the shop. I still don't buy anything that is made of shell unless i know it has been casually found on the local shoreline by the crafter. But I am so inspired by the ocean! So how to get it into my home? There are some great ceramicists that do a wonderful job of making clay look like coral, that is my only idea thus far.
