Banana bread and a friend

I have met someone in the blogger world that I would like to call a friend..but can we call someone we never met in person a friend? When I was young I had a pen pal I referred to her as such " my pen pal madeleine"...so is this different now? would I say my " blogger friend Aran" because to me it is more than that.......

This morning I made banana bread, last night i had mentioned to aran via e-mail that I wanted to make something simple with whole wheat flower, she returned the e-mail saying that she had just made banana bread with whole wheat. this morning with a house full of family -niece and nephews, sister in law, and mum- such a treat because it is very rare to have company here since they live far away, and I long for these moments. anyways, the children laughing in the living room and the rest sitting in the garden, i pulled out the recipe, the bowl, ingredients and baked. I do not do it often anymore but there is something about having children in the house that makes me a better person. As i took the bread out of the oven everyone gathered (it's not like I never, ever bake or cook) but something about this morning was different- we took it to the garden where I was able to share some with my neighbors....as the loaf disappeared I knew what that difference was- for a moment it was if aran was here, sharing her recipe with us- maybe just the way she would have done it at home in spain.

Thank you aran- we all agreed it was the best we ever had!

you brought tears to my eyes nadia. that is wonderful that a simple, humble banana bread can bring people together like this. there is nothing that can bring more joy to me than this. you are a friend nadia.

This is such a wonderful post and it's wonderful that the two of you have found a real friendship through this world--you both seem to share an authenticity and sweetness and warmth that you convey through your daily posts-- it seems natural that you would be friends and link together through a recipe, through a photograph.

It is so nice to see people who truly appreciate each other. Thanks for making the blogging world so much nicer!

What a wonderful time shared in real and virtual life! We sure meet some pretty incredible people online, don't we? The hardest part is to make others understand that you can establish some pretty strong connections without meeting in the flesh.

I love the friendship you share and the fact you share it with us..I would love to have the recipe, if it isn't top secret.

banana bread looks like I'm the only one here who hasn't eated it yet! Uhmm...have to fix that. It looks so yummmy :)
Lovely friendship story and yes I do believe that internet friendships are real friendships. If they are our friends is because we have a lot of things in common sometimes even more than with our "old friends".

What a wonderful post! I love the pictures - and the girl at the bottom is just too sweet for words.

And, yes - it does feel strange calling someone a friend whom you've never met. I have the same sort of awkwardness about it. But really, whether it's face-to-face or via the written word, when you connect with someone, you connect with someone. :)
